So Ham
I Am That
So = I Am
Ham = That/She/He
This chant is often used as a breathing meditation.
SO corresponds to the inhale, and HAM to the exhale.
This term is found in the Upanishads (ancient writings), and identifies “oneself with the universe of ultimate reality”.
Swami Muktananda, quoted from one of his writings from 1968, that Ham can (also) be associated with the inhale, and Sa with the exhale.
Hamsa means ‘swan’ in Sanskrit. Poetic license is taken in this version and So Ham is followed by Ham So. And it’s all good.
